In winter, air leaks make a house less comfortable and increase heating costs.
Often invisible, they nevertheless manifest themselves through several easily identifiable signs.
Here's how to identify an air leak during the cold season:
Drafts near windows and doors — if you feel a temperature difference when you bring your hand close, it is often a sign of a leak.
Condensation or frost on windows — weak sealant or ineffective glazing lets in cold air.
Temperature variation between rooms — a significant difference indicates that air is circulating where it shouldn't.
Dust accumulates near baseboards or electrical outlets — outside air can enter through poorly sealed electrical boxes.
Candle or paper test — if the flame or paper moves near a window, frame or molding, it's a leak.
Correcting leaks improves comfort, increases energy efficiency and reduces heating bills – a simple but very profitable investment.
