Description of the mandate

For this project located in Mirabel, our client wanted to transform an existing shed into a more functional outdoor space, better integrated with the terrace and suitable for use with a hot tub. The objective was to create a sheltered, aesthetically pleasing, and versatile extension, while modernizing the overall appearance of the facade.

We designed and built a completely custom structure, including the addition of large French doors to enhance natural light and provide direct access to the terrace and jacuzzi. The entire structure had to blend seamlessly with the existing cabin, both in terms of style and materials.

Technical challenges

This type of project presents several challenges requiring precise planning to achieve a lasting and visually consistent result. Key challenges include:

  • Attaching it to the existing shed , respecting alignments, roof slopes and structural constraints.

  • The intervention around an already installed jacuzzi , which required protecting the equipment at all times while maintaining the necessary clearances.

  • The design of a ventilated extension, but one that can be closed in winter , thanks to a system of plexiglass panels mounted on removable wooden frames allowing the snow and wind to be blocked when the cold season arrives.

  • Adjusting the exterior cladding to ensure perfect visual continuity with the existing shed.

  • The integration of large French doors into a lightweight structure requires precise preparation to ensure strength and airtightness.

These challenges were met in a way that preserved the comfort, durability and desired aesthetics for this outdoor space.

Solutions implemented

The new extension was built entirely on a dedicated structure, securely anchored and designed to blend naturally with the existing shed.

The large French doors that have been added offer a generous opening onto the terrace while providing ample natural light.

To meet the needs of four-season use, we created a removable system of plexiglass panels allowing the space to be closed off during the winter and kept ventilated during the summer.

Each panel was custom-made to fit precisely into the structure.

The shed also received an upgrade to its exterior cladding , ensuring complete harmony between the existing structure and the new section. The finishing was carried out with care to make the transition between the two volumes as seamless as possible.

Finally, the whole area has been designed to offer the smoothest possible flow of traffic around the existing jacuzzi, with safe clearances and protection against the elements.

Project duration

The work was completed over approximately two and a half weeks , including the fabrication of the custom-made elements and the complete installation of the extension.

Final result

The result offers a versatile outdoor space, bright and perfectly integrated into the existing environment.

Thanks to the removable winter cover, the customer can now enjoy the jacuzzi in all seasons, while benefiting from a sheltered and aesthetically pleasing area.

The whole thing modernizes the courtyard, improves functionality and adds real value to the property.
