Description of the mandate

For this project in Montreal , our team had to replace a badly deteriorated exterior staircase and restore the entire front gallery.

The client wanted to improve security, modernize the appearance of the entrance, and use durable materials suitable for outdoor conditions.

We rebuilt the entire staircase, redid the gallery finishes and made the portico under the structure fully functional, while preserving the existing iron railings.

Technical challenges

The old staircase was in an advanced state of deterioration and required a complete reconstruction with longer treads to improve user comfort.

The portico under the gallery also needed repair to make it usable again. Several precise adjustments were required around the brick wall and existing columns.

In addition, we had to deal with different thicknesses of finishes already present on the structure in order to obtain a perfectly aligned and consistent final result without having to replace everything, which required additional time and meticulous work.

Solutions implemented

Demolition and reconstruction

  • Complete removal of the old staircase and weakened wood.

  • Manufacturing of new stringers and steps in treated wood , with more comfortable treads.

  • Installation of cedar risers and fascias for an elegant and durable finish.

Gallery upgrade

  • Removal of all the old gallery finishes.

  • Replacement of the treated wood flooring to standardize and secure the entire area.

  • Precise adjustments around the columns and the brick facade.

Portico renovation

  • Repair of the gantry under the gallery in order to make it fully functional.

  • Work adapted to preserve the existing structure without completely replacing it.

Project duration

The work was completed in just over two weeks .

Final result

The project offers a more robust , safer and significantly more harmonious entrance.

The combined use of treated wood and cedar provides warmth and durability, while respecting the character of the facade.

The client said he was very satisfied with the result, which improves both aesthetics and daily functionality.
