Saint-Basile-le-Grand Project - Access Hatches

Description of the mandate
In Saint-Basile-le-Grand , we installed two access hatches in the ceiling of a mobile home to allow safe and permanent access to the attic for inspection.
The existing gypsum ceilings were in good condition, and the objective was clear: to create clean, solid and visually well-integrated openings, while retaining the thermal insulation already in place.
Technical challenges
The intervention required precise cutting of the existing gypsum , without damaging the surrounding surfaces.
The presence of blown insulation in the attic space required careful handling: temporary removal during opening, bagging, then putting back in place after installation.
It was also necessary to:
Locate the roof trusses precisely.
Modify certain furring strips to ensure good support for the plasterboard.
Add structural framing between the farms.
Position the trapdoors strategically (especially in the master bedroom, as discreetly as possible in a corner).
The goal was to achieve a result that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Solutions implemented
Preparation and structure
Precise location between roof trusses.
Tracing and controlled cutting of existing gypsum.
Installation of a reinforced structural wood frame.
Adjusting the furring strips to ensure complete ceiling support.
Installation and finishing
Installation of insulated prefabricated access hatches.
Reinstallation of the recovered blown insulation.
Addition of custom finishing moldings.
Application of latex sealant to limit air loss.
The paint touch-ups will be carried out later by the client during the complete refurbishment of the ceiling.
Project duration
Less than 2 days.
Final result
The two hatches now offer convenient and safe access to the attic space , while maintaining a clean, discreet finish that is well integrated with the existing ceiling .
Precise, meticulous and structured work, perfectly adapted to the constraints of a mobile home.
