Description of the mandate
This project, carried out in Montreal, consisted of the complete renovation and expansion of a bathroom , in order to offer a more functional, better configured and significantly more modern space.
The intervention involved the relocation of several sanitary elements, a complete reconstruction of the floor, the creation of new partitions, as well as direct coordination between plumber, electrician and ceramists to guarantee a consistent and lasting result.
Technical challenges
Several challenges have marked this project:
Room expansion requiring relocation of plumbing and creation of new partitions.
Working in a confined space during the initial demolition, before the complete opening of the future bathroom.
Complete floor reconstruction , including structural leveling, soundproofing, preparation for membrane and heating system.
Creation of niches and structural adjustments to allow for precise and uniform ceramic tile installation.
Management of blown wool in the ceiling , removed and then replaced after the installation of the new ceiling.
Drilling through ceramic for mounting rails (vanity, cabinet, accessories), requiring meticulous execution.
Solutions implemented
Demolition and preparation
Complete removal of the old bathroom: plasterboard, ceramics, vanity, shower, exposed plumbing.
Exposed down to the joists, corrected and blown for perfect floor leveling .
Installation of a new floor:
5/8" tongue and groove plywood ,
1/2" plywood, screwed and glued ,
Soundproofing with rock wool ,
The membrane is installed by the ceramists, then the heating wire by the electrician.
Reinstallation of the blown wool after closing the ceiling.
Space reconfiguration
Relocation of sanitary fixtures by the plumber and creation of new partitions to optimize the layout.
Fabrication of structural locations for two ceramic niches , then adjusted by the ceramists.
Installation of the new bathroom
Installation of a new bath and shower system , with wall ceramics throughout the area.
Continuity of the ceramic tiles across an entire wall for a uniform and modern look.
Installation of a new, perfectly level ceramic floor .
Electrical upgrade: underfloor heating , new light fixtures and ventilation.
Installation of a new vanity , sink, mirror and accessories, with precise drilling of the ceramic.
Joint taping, complete finishing of the gypsum and painting .
Project duration
A little less than 5 weeks , including the coordination of the different trades.
Final result
The bathroom now offers a larger, brighter and significantly better configured space, with a modern and durable finish.
The new heated floor, integrated niches, carefully laid ceramic tiles and complete reconfiguration of the layout create a comfortable, elegant and highly functional environment.
