Description of the mandate

For this renovation located in Montreal, our mandate was to completely modernize a small, aging bathroom.

The goal: to transform an outdated and impractical space into a modern, leveled room that is better insulated and more pleasant to live in on a daily basis.

Technical challenges

The renovation presented several significant challenges:

Working in a confined space

Working in a small bathroom requires rigorous planning to manage movement, temporary storage of materials, and access to each work area.

Flooring needs to be completely redone

The unevenness was significant: we had to demolish everything down to the joists, manage the presence of numerous cables and pipes, and then rebuild a perfectly straight and solid floor.

Removal of old, difficult materials

The old ceramics rested on an old concrete/mortar slab embedded in a wire mesh, which required a long and careful dismantling process.

Integration of a new complete shower

The new base and specialized wall panels had to fit perfectly into the existing space, which required a very high degree of precision.

Humidity management

Installation of water-resistant gypsum, specialized shower panels, and appropriate joints and seals to ensure a durable seal.

Presence of a cast iron radiator

The impossibility of moving the radiator meant that work had to be done around it while maintaining a clean and uniform result.

Solutions implemented

Demolition and reconstruction of the floor

The bathroom was completely opened up to the joists in order to correct the structure, level the surfaces and rebuild a solid floor.

• Application of a liquid membrane to the plywood to ensure waterproofing.

• Complete sealing of joints to eliminate any risk of water infiltration.

Installation of the new shower

Complete replacement: base, specialized wall panels, precise assembly and adjustment for a durable and perfectly aligned installation.

Redo the drywall and paint the entire room

Water-resistant gypsum was installed throughout the bathroom, with integrated insulation for improved thermal and acoustic comfort.

A fresh coat of paint has made the space uniform.

New compact toilet

A more modern and compact toilet has been installed, optimizing circulation in this small room.

Installation of the new floating wood-effect floor

After the liquid membrane, a standard underlay of rubberized foam was installed.

The flooring installed is a click vinyl floating floor , ideal for a bathroom thanks to its water resistance, stability and comfort.

Project duration

The work was completed in just under 4 weeks , including demolition, structural corrections, reconstruction, installation of new elements and finishing touches.

Final result

This small bathroom has been completely modernized and optimized to offer a warmer, more functional and much more pleasant space for everyday use:

  • The new shower , perfectly fitted to the space, provides a modern look and more comfortable use.

  • The gypsum, completely redone with adequate insulation, allows for better resistance to moisture and an impeccable finish.

  • The leveled floor , despite a complex structure full of cables and pipes, now provides a solid, straight and durable base.

  • The new floating wood-effect flooring , laid on a liquid membrane and underlay, offers a warmer look and better water resistance than the original ceramic.

  • The more compact and modern toilet optimizes space and improves the functionality of the room.

The entire project transforms this small bathroom into a more harmonious, better constructed and visually much more inviting space.
